Ian Baker is an accomplished winemaker who knows how to grow coastal grapes and craft them into excellent wines. His local experience on Vancouver Island and on Salt Spring Island as one of the Founders and the winemaker for Mistaken Identity Vineyard is a big advantage in that Ian is very knowledgeable about growing different varietals in specifically this Wine Islands Region. Ian knows what works in this region and isn’t trying to apply experiences from other wine regions of the World, or British Columbia for that matter. Ian has earned multiple Gold and Silver medal awards every year that he has professionally crafted wines from 2008 onwards, including medals from the Canadian Wine Access 2012 and the North West Wine Summit 2012, and even more importantly he has earned high praise from respected wine critics and his peers. Ian has experience in certified organic vineyards and improved the production and quality of the fruit at Mistaken Identity Vineyard and he brings that knowledge and best practices to our vineyards. Always intent on learning more Ian has furthered his education and understanding of making wine from cool climate grapes through participation in workshops and associations that work together on improving Viticulture and Oenology in cool climate regions. Ian has a passion in growing grapes and crafting quality wines. Simply put, Ian has a passion to “grow great wine”, which begins in the vineyard applying ways to improve quality and yields.
